Wake Up

Afraid to let others in.

Been brutally burned,

Scorched by my own kin.

Everyone talks a good game

But the moment you’re hurting, in pain,

And failing to live as they dictate you should

They ridicule you, torture you,

Condemn you to shame- over and over and over again.

Then in the same breath declare, Black Lives Matter

Only their unrelenting self-righteous lens refuses to falter

And so, they posture - with the courage of keyboard stroke,

Lashing out at the very life that mattered a moment ago

When they professed to the world “Stay Woke!”

But I see your darkness, you can’t remain there

Because your Black life matters,

in every sense of the matter

‘cause on the contrary,

I am awake.

People are hurting,

yet your judgmental accusations just keep flirting

with danger and sin

lying

not so dormant and not so deep within.

Miss me with your self-righteous indignation.

We’re all in need of saving… Grace

it’s evident when you part your lips

Deal with the log blocking your vision.

More you cast stones - wider the division.

Be the change you seek

This calling ain’t for the weak-

Requires following Christ-God within

Render more than lip service

This ain’t light work – this is Life work

What’s in you bound for Light

Your darkness exposed with linguistic delight

Lips reveal what the heart can’t disguise

Tree bears fruit from deep seeded roots

Strange hanging fruit caused by your own hand

I believe Lauryn Hill said somethin’ like;

How you gon win, when you ain’t right within?

Wake up

Come again

Save the verdict for Judgment Day

Pray you live to see things another way

Wake up

Come Again
